About Mia

Meet Mia, the overlooked little dog who just needs someone willing to understand her.

Mia is a 6-year-old spayed Terrier mix with a sweet heart, a playful personality, and a big love for routine. She has been overlooked for far too long, but her foster knows the truth: once Mia is comfortable, she is a great dog.

Mia can be mouthy when she is nervous, excited, or trying to play. That means she may use her mouth during interaction when she is overstimulated or unsure. The important part is that this behavior has improved tremendously — and with her foster, Mia’s mouthiness is now non-existent. Why? Because she feels safe, knows the routine, and understands what is expected of her.

Mia is a total foodie. She loves treats and especially enjoys dog-safe fruits and vegetables like carrots, celery, broccoli, strawberries, pineapple, watermelon, and blueberries in appropriate portions. Treats are a great way to build trust with her.

Her housetraining is also strong once she knows the routine and her people understand her signals. She may sit by the door or whine when she needs to go out. If those cues are missed, especially while she is settling into a new home, she may have an accident near the door. A house with a consistent schedule and quick access outside would be best.

Mia’s crate is her safe place. It gives her somewhere to rest, decompress, and feel secure. She will do best with people who respect her need for structure and quiet downtime.

Mia does have boundaries that need to be respected. She may not like being picked up by people she does not know, especially men. If she feels scared, trapped, or cornered, picking her up may cause her to panic and bite accidentally. She needs calm handling and people who can read dog body language.

Mia is friendly overall, but she can become defensive if a much larger unfamiliar dog rushes up to her with too much energy, even if that dog is just trying to say “hi.” She may growl or lunge to create space. For her comfort and safety, Mia should avoid dog parks, surprise dog greetings, and close encounters with unknown high-energy dogs.

Mia also needs respectful food boundaries. She can be food protective and may growl if someone tries to take her food or if another pet gets too close to her meals, treats, or chews. This is manageable with simple structure: feed her separately and give her space while eating.

Mia does not need a perfect home. She needs a patient, dog-experienced adopter who will give her time, routine, and the chance to show the sweet dog she really is.

Mia will be 5 years old in Aug 2022 and is just the sweetest tabby girl. She likes to hang out in the cat tree and soak in the sun, eat treats, and nap. She’s not overly playful with other cats/dogs but loves being petted by her humans and is affectionate. She will talk to you while you are petting her and will brush against your legs or walk in-between your legs for attention. She tolerates other animals but doesn’t mind letting them know if they are too energetic around her.

You don't want to miss out on this sweet young adult.

Stevie and Pepsi are SAFE!!!!!

We saved their lives today.

They are FELV +.

Feline Leukemia means they cannot be around other cats, unless those cats also have it (which is insanely rare due to the frequent euthanasia of FELV + cats in shelters).

These babies are 9 months old and so excited to be loved on 😻

We have lost a lot of lives lately, and we refused to see Stevie and Pepsi die in a shelter.

Thank you to their amazing foster, Brooke, for agreeing to take them on and love them like her own 💜

They will be going to the vet today to figure out the next best steps.

WELCOME STEVIE AND PEPSI!

We are so grateful to be your heroes.
